Hong Kong Government has launched a two-month public consultation on renewing the Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (BSAP) on 12 May 2025.

Some 130 experts from 67 organizations have come together and formed the Hong Kong Biodiversity Expert Group to discuss priorities for the next BSAP. Five priority areas have been identified:

  • Initiate large-scale restoration of both terrestrial and marine ecosystems

  • Scale up of protection for Hong Kong’s coastal and marine ecosystems

  • Protect Hong Kong’s most endangered species

  • Mainstream biodiversity in business to engage the private sector in biodiversity conservation

  • Reduce Hong Kong’s impact on biodiversity caused by the wildlife trade and unsustainable consumption

A detailed report with 75 priority recommendations and 65 supporting recommendations have been produced and shared with the Hong Kong Government. The report may provide ideas or even have some resonating recommendations when you formulate your views for the government to consider.
